Paperless-ngx is a document management system that turns scanned paper and digital files into a searchable archive. It runs every document through OCR, applies user-defined matching rules to tag and file new arrivals automatically, and pulls new paperwork in through a watched folder or a connected email inbox. A full-text search index means finding a document again takes seconds, not a folder hunt. People who've used Paperless-ngx for years keep citing the same thing: once the matching rules are set up, it files new documents on its own, correspondent, tag, and document type included, rather than leaving that to a folder structure or memory. That's a recurring theme among long-time self-hosters. So is trust in the project's active, community-driven development. Every feature, including OCR and the REST API, is free in self-hosted Paperless-ngx, with nothing held back for a paid tier.
