Gitea is a Git platform for hosting code, running CI/CD pipelines through Gitea Actions, and tracking issues and pull requests, built to run comfortably on modest hardware. It also includes a built-in wiki and a package registry supporting more than 20 formats. People who choose Gitea consistently point to how light it is. Written in Go, it runs on a Raspberry Pi or a small VPS without the RAM and disk overhead heavier self-hosted platforms need. It also stays simple to maintain over time. Running your own instance also means your repositories, issues, and CI minutes aren't subject to another platform's pricing changes or usage caps. The only gated feature is SAML single sign-on, which requires the Enterprise tier. Everything else, including CI/CD, the package registry, and unlimited users, is available self-hosted at no cost.
