FreshRSS is a news aggregator that pulls websites, podcasts, and video channels into one place to read. It supports multiple separate accounts on a single instance, filter rules for sorting articles by feed, tag, author, or keyword, and an extension system for adding functionality without touching the core code. People who move to a self-hosted reader tend to cite the same handful of reasons. One is avoiding ads and upsells creeping into the feed. Another is features that quietly move behind a paywall. A third is a cloud provider seeing everything they read. FreshRSS runs comfortably on modest home hardware. Its extension and theme system goes further than most hosted readers allow. Every feature, including the API and the extension system, is available self-hosted at no cost.
