Firefly III is a personal finance manager for tracking income, expenses, and budgets, built in PHP with Laravel. It handles multiple accounts and currencies, bank-sync imports, and detailed reports on where money goes, plus a REST API for anyone who wants to automate imports or build their own dashboards. People who choose Firefly III over subscription budgeting apps consistently cite two things. The first is no monthly fee, since it's self-hosted. The second is a more flexible approach to budgeting that doesn't force strict envelope-style planning up front. It also handles multiple currencies within a single budget, unlike tools that require a separate budget per currency. Every feature, including bank-sync and the REST API, is available at no cost.
